Last month, the College’s Business Ethics Team returned to the International Business Ethics Case Competition (IBECC), held this year in Boston, MA. The team defended their established reputation, taking second place in the 10-minute event. Students Giulianna Gonzalez, Daniel Ramos, Emily Gutierrez, Cesar Muir, Nicole Izquierdo, Maria Leon, and Nathaniel Mizzell, all students at Doral Academy Preparatory, squared off against colleges from all over the world in the College’s second year attending. Led by General Counsel and Ethics faculty member, Ryan Kairalla, students delivered a presentation dealing with sexual harassment and the toxic workplace in the Dallas Mavericks titled The Dallas Mavericks: Building an Ethical Workplace Culture. Before returning home, students met up with a familiar face, DC Alum and Board of Trustees member, Juan Infante, who took them on a personal tour of Harvard University, where he now studies.
Over 30 teams competed in IBECC this year, with participants coming from as far as Spain, Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Some of the College’s local competition includes the University of Miami, the University of Florida, and Stetson University. Events at the competition include the full 25-minute presentation, in which last year’s business ethics team took home first place, the 10-minute event, and the 90-second event.
